The Spiritual Journey of Evangelist Judy Lawrence Lamb

Rooted in a lifelong foundation of faith, Judy played an instrumental role in the growth and expansion of many ministries at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Suffolk, VA, under the leadership of Dr. Anthony Copeland, where her spiritual journey was nurtured and strengthened. It was her beginning; she served there for nearly 40 years. When she was diagnosed with cancer, she shared with her pastor that she was led to leave the covering of the people who loved her because, when God healed her, He would receive the glory. It was a difficult decision, but she knew that she had to be obedient to the leading of the Holy Spirit.
She and her husband, William, agreed that The Mount in Chesapeake was where God was leading them. They joined and immediately began to feel the love; the members became family. She started out working as a receptionist and later became the organizer and choreographer of a senior citizen praise dance ministry. They thought that they had arrived at the final worship destination when William was asked to serve as a deacon at Prince of Peace Church. Judy agreed to go with him because her husband was always in support of her in all of her endeavors. She was torn but ultimately decided that wherever William served, she would be by his side.
On May 4, 2013—the anniversary of the death of her firstborn, Adrian —she graduated with honors alongside her youngest son, Allen, from Norfolk State University. Once she graduated, the couple decided they wanted to experience a new beginning. Even though the state of Virginia was where many of their family members lived, it was also the place where many heartbreaks took place. So they left their ranch-style home in Chesapeake and headed to Charlotte, NC. They had fallen in love with the city and saw it as a place to make new and exciting memories. They knew that a church home was important to both of them, and they were blessed to join Calvary Church under the leadership of Pastor John Munro. William settled in and began to make friends, as did Judy. She became a camp counselor for the Vacation Bible School, after which she was asked to serve as a fifth-grade Sunday School teacher.
Then sickness began, starting with Judy’s mother, Lucretia, who actually decided to be baptized there in her late 80s. After she was on the road to recovery, William became ill—then Judy. It became an ongoing circle of illnesses in their household, and church attendance became less and less. Eventually, William no longer drove. When there was a break in sickness, transportation became an issue. They began attending virtual services, with an occasional attendance here and there. Virtual worship became their way of life, with a few church visits now and then.
One of the churches they visited was in Greensboro, NC, before William stopped driving—Cedar Grove Tabernacle of Praise, where Pastor J. Troy Blackwell serves as overseer. The church hosted a beautiful book signing event for Judy. The love and support from its people was the reason William and Judy agreed that they wished it wasn’t so far away—that they would love to become members. They had known the pastor and his wife, Kim, for over 35 years. Before Overseer Blackwell answered his call into ministry, they actually served together at Oak Grove Baptist Church.
When William went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, November 29, 2025, Judy felt the need to be covered. Her heart led her straight to Cedar Grove. She knew that it was the Spirit of God because, even though it’s nearly a two-hour Sunday morning drive, God makes provisions. It has become home, with no unrealistic expectations regarding her attendance. When transportation can’t be provided, she isn’t in the building, but she is still in the number.
She continues to grow and serve as a member of Cedar Grove Tabernacle of Praise under the leadership of Overseer John Troy Blackwell—a covering that aligns with her season of elevation, healing, and purpose.

Ministry Connections

Judy is an active member of her church and works in partnership with its leadership. She is connected with J. Troy Blackwell, Overseer, and the ministries welcome you to explore more:
Minister Linda Holley came into my life when I was fighting stage four metastatic breast cancer. Sadly, I don’t remember the details of our first connection because chemotherapy had a great impact on my ability to remember. I always found that very interesting since I was able to finish my first degree with no special accommodations under its influence. My oncologist was the keynote speaker at my 60th birthday celebration and he expressed his amazement that I was able to graduate with honors having “chemo brain.”
I realize now that it wasn’t important when I met Linda; the fact is—I did. She took the words from my heart during my time in the valley and transformed them into worship. For our Agape Love Missions, I was blessed to have Minister Earl Bynum and her singing a duet debuting on the Spirit of Norfolk—in Norfolk, VA.—also words from my heart. They were love songs and it was quite a blessing to see couples dancing to them and enjoying their evening. We rented the entire deck!
Later, cancer invaded her life; she gave up the fight on June 19, 2024.I will be forever grateful for the gifts she left behind.

“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit… therefore honor God with your bodies.”

(1 Corinthians 6:19–20)

Out of that sacred place of love and loss, Judy founded The Widow’s Might—a compassionate initiative devoted to supporting widows through grief, emotional healing, and restoration. It stands as a testament that even in loss, purpose can rise, and healing can begin again.
Through Judy Lawrence Lamb Ministries, she is answering a higher call—to reach beyond walls and across nations through a dynamic virtual ministry platform. Her mission is clear: to bridge generational gaps, restore hearts through spiritual and emotional healing, bring awareness to the needs of the homeless, and reignite the importance of literacy in young children. This is not just ministry—it is movement, legacy, and impact.
Her passion for literacy is deeply personal, shaped by those who saw greatness in her early. With heartfelt honor, we recognize her 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Juanita Glover of Suffolk, wife of the late Dr. Bernard Glover, whose influence helped lay the foundation for Judy’s love of reading, comprehension, and lifelong learning.
Judy’s life is a living testimony—of faith that stands, love that endures, and purpose that refuses to be silenced. Through every initiative, every word, and every act of service, she continues to build a bridge between generations, between pain and healing, and between calling and fulfillment.
This is more than her story—it is an invitation.
To heal. To grow. To serve. To believe.
